US-Debut by child prodigy from Malta

Not too long ago, Dmitry Ishkhanov still had to play standing on his feet ro reach both the keyboard and the pedals of his concert grand. Nevertheless, the eleven-year-old child prodigy plays like an adult when it comes to interpretation, deepness and taste. Experts already are convinced that Dmitry is going to be one of the greatest pianists of 21st century and critics are celebrating him as a prodigy. Until now, the Russian-born son of Armenian parents never played in the US.

The Washington International Piano Festival now is proud to present the fascinating pianist in the American capital. Dmitry, totally dedicated to classical music but also a big fan of playing chess and gaming with his computer, will have a glamorous appearance together with other pianists, on July 31, at the Kennedy Center Millenium Stage. On August 1, he will give a demanding solo concert at the Ward Recital Hall CUA with major works by renowned composers like Bach, Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, Chopin and others. Dmitry will also take a closer look on works by the Maltese composer Charles Camilleri and pay attention to the Armenian composer Arno Babajanian and the Russian composer Isaak Berkovich, all of them still to be discovered by a greater audience.

Dmitry Ishkhanov was born in 2005 in Moscow, Russia. By the age of 8, he completed 5 grades in Practical Piano of the ABRSM (The Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music, UK) in Malta. At the moment, Dmitry is studying at the Cologne University of Music. His music teacher is Lolita Poghosyan and his consultant is professor Nina Tichman. Dmitry won prizes in numerous prestigious international competitions. The young musician also participated in numerous festivals in Malta, Germany, Russia and Italy. In addition, he has performed as a soloist with numerous orchestras such as the WDR orchestra at the Cologne Philharmonie, symphonic orchestra “Duchi d'Acquaviva”, the National Chamber Orchestra of Armenia and the chamber orchestra NRW. Dmitry performed in concerts in France, Italy, Germany, Denmark, Switzerland, Armenia, Russia, Czech Republic, Belgium, Spain and Malta.

Recently, Dmitry played his first recital for the Maltese president at his palace in La Valetta, in May 2016. He also had his debut at Yerevan, the capital of Armenia, and was chosen to represent Malta at the international competition Eurovision Young Musicians. For this purpose he was granted a special admission, as this competition normally is for youngsters between 15 and 18 years, only.
