September Northern Virginia BENG Networking Meeting featuring Fern Hernberg

The next Northern VA BENG meeting will be Thursday, September 19th At this month's meeting, we are excited to have Fern Hernberg present: Tips for the Modern Job Search: How to Wow Employers and Crowd Out the Competition About Fern Hernberg: Fern Hernberg is a human resources executive and entrepreneur with over 25 years of experience in a variety of industries spanning both the for-profit and non-profit arenas. In 2010, Fern launched Eagle HR, Inc., a human resources consulting firm dedicated to delivering exceptional talent management solutions through a powerful combination of professional expertise and personal attention. Prior to starting Eagle, Fern held a variety of senior-level HR positions with Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association, Deloitte Services LP, and the United Service Organizations (USO). Since opening Eagle, Fern has devoted her energies to helping local business owners and leaders accomplish their goals by making the most of their human resources. This often starts with the development of a strong foundation of legal compliance and sound HR policies and practices. However, Fern encourages employers to take their HR efforts to an even higher level by also developing thoughtful and deliberate strategies focused on maximizing the productivity of their employees and the retention of their top performers. Fern is on a self-proclaimed “one-woman mission” to help employers discover the joy and satisfaction that comes from successfully managing employees and enabling them to contribute to their fullest potential. Fern holds an undergraduate degree in Communication from the University of Delaware and a Masters of Science in Human Resources from Loyola University Chicago. She is a member of the Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM) and a certified facilitator of several personality assessments and training and development programs. Fern is a proud member of the Tysons Regional Chamber of Commerce and the Vienna Business Association, and volunteers her time helping other small business owners with their human resources needs through the Community Business Partnership. ABOUT BENG: The Northern Virginia chapter of the Business Executives Networking Group (BENG) is a multidiscipline, independent group of job seekers, those currently employed and business networkers, who are willing to help others. Current membership includes mid to senior level executives with over ten (10) years of business experience. Past attendees have come from the financial management, information technology, legal, manufacturing, engineering, transportation, logistics, distribution and general management industries. We actively seek new members from all disciplines. BENG provides its members with: A supportive atmosphere of high-value, face-to-face networking opportunities Relevant professional contacts for the unemployed, employed and self-employed An emotionally supportive environment for those in career transition Education and assistance for those members desiring to build, maintain or expand their professional network Networking meetings provide members with an opportunity to sharpen their networking skills, meet peers from various disciplines and share business opportunities and job leads. WE WILL HOLD A SEAT FOR THE FIRST 30 PEOPLE THAT RSVP THEIR ATTENDANCE. If you ask us to hold a seat for you, please make every effort to attend. How it works: 1. Each participant delivers an "elevator speech" letting the group know what type of job or specific business connection you are seeking. 2. The other participants share leads, connections and suggestions.ach participant delivers an "elevator speech" letting the group know what type of job or specific business connection you are seekingWhat to bring to each meeting: 1. Bring 20 copies of a ONE-PAGER -- a single piece of paper -- featuring job history, skills, objectives and contact info. If you distribute this page at the start of your presentation, fellow attendees are much better able to deliver feedback and ideas. 2. Bring a “tent card” with your name to place in front of your seat (a folded 8 ½ x 11 sheet of paper works great). Background: Originating in southern Pennsylvania, BENG is a voluntary association of business professionals founded on “Members Helping Members” for mutual benefit.
