      Rolling Thunder Ride for Freedom

In 2020 the Rolling Thunder Ride (XXXIII) POW/MIA demonstration will be significantly different than in previous years.  Historically, riders have gathered in Washington, DC on Memorial Day for the Ride for Freedom.

Last year, Rolling Thunder organizers stated that there would be big changes happening this year. Most importantly, instead of riders gathering in DC for the Ride for Freedom, smaller rides will be held across the country.  Organizers stated that high costs and logistical challenges of the ride made it not feasible to be held in Washington, DC.

Annually about 500,000 attendees gathered for the Rolling Thunder Motorcycle Ride that went from the Pentagon to The Wall.  Subsequently, this ride is on the’s Major Motorcycle Rallies List.

Next, there are some terms that are frequently confused.  For instance, there have always been various events called Ride to the Wall, Ride for the Wall, etc. These rides were for those traveling to the Official Ride for Freedom held in DC on Sunday.

In 2020, the Rolling Thunder Motorcycle Rides will still be held to demonstrate the need to account for the Prisoners of War and Missing In Action. Additionally, the demonstrations will be held to help prevent leaving POW-MIA troops unaccounted for.

Finally, details on the various 2020 rides will be announced as the events start to come together.
