This 2 part workshop focuses on guiding purpose driven enterprises to develop their elevator pitches and to brainstorm on growing the values-based community through local outreach programs. Design thinking exercises will be used to generate ideas that can be implemented with a shoe-string budget but with maximum impact. Certified B Corporations are businesses that meet the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance, public transparency, and legal accountability to balance profit and purpose. B Corps are accelerating a global culture shift to redefine success in business and build a more inclusive and sustainable economy. Part 1: Pitching and Marketing Your Purpose Driven Enterprise This 1/2 day workshop focuses on guiding purpose driven enterprises to develop their elevator pitches and to brainstorm on growing the B Corp community through local outreach programs. Design thinking exercises will be used to generate ideas that can be implemented with a shoe-string budget but with maximum impact. Part 2: Exploring Models for University Engagement with Social Enterprises The aim of this 1/2 day workshop is two fold: first to share a successful model for engaging regional universities with social businesses through the B Corp Impact Assessment; and second, to explore ways this model could be adopted and adapted for implementation. Design thinking exercises will be used to generate ideas about how the academic community can maximize institutional resources of universities and promote closer regional collaboration for social enterprises. Schedule 9:00 AM - 12:30 PM - Part 1: Pitching and Marketing Your Purpose Driven Enterprise 12:30 PM - 1:30 PM - Lunch* 1:30 PM - 4:00 PM Part 2: Exploring Models for University Engagement with Social Enterprises This workshop will be led by Rosanna Garcia, Professor of Entrepreneurship at the University of Denver and Emily Medley Landry, Sociology PhD candidate at the University of Tennessee, both founding members of the B Academic Community. Rosanna has consulted with aspiring B Corp companies since 2014 and Emily's dissertation research focuses on the obstacles and opportunities B Locals are facing around the United States. Pre-and post-workshops surveys will be administered to help stimulate conversation. This outreach is supported by grants from the American Marketing Association and the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation. The $25 workshop fee will cover materials. Bethesda Green works to create a sustainable urban ecosystem, build collaboratively through citizen engagement, government partnership and innovative business development. The Global B Corp Academic Community (B Academics) is a network of educators and researchers from around the world who are committed to accelerating the sustainable business movement by studying the global movement of B Corporation certification and benefit corporations. *Lunch will not be provided. If you bring lunch we have refrigerator space as well as microwaves. There are many restaurants within walking distance if you would like to go out to buy food.
