      Comedy as a Second Language returns - this time at the Silver Spring Black Box!  Join us for a night of amazing stand-up comedy with the funniest immigrant and first generation performers!  This will be a hilarious night of comedy with Maher Matta, Davine Ker, Simone, and Anna Tirat-Gefen.  Curious about the show?  Read an article in the DCist about our last show or see a video promo here. No.  This is a show intended for adults or older teens so we recommend age 16+  Where is the Silver Spring Black Box?  Silver Spring Black Box is a cool theatre right in the center of downtown Silver Spring, across from the Fillmore and next to AFI.  There is free parking in the nearby parking lots (on Saturday nights) and we are 5 minute walk from the Silver Spring metro.   Is the venue accessible? He has appeared on FOX's "Laughs TV" (Season 2). He has performed at comedy clubs across the country, hired for private events, and placed in comedy festivals  and competitions. Maher is also a regular at the annual Arab American Comedy Festival at Gotham Comedy Club in New York City. He was also a writer and comedy sketch actor for "Tonight In San Diego." His comedy revolves around story telling and observational humor. Maher can also do multiple accents which he often incorporates into his comedy.  Davine Ker is a stand up comedian, improvisor, musical improviser, Moth StorySLAM winner, actor, visual artist and a musician.  She moved from Cambodia to Canada at 6 months old and then to the US in 2003.  Davine caters to your comedy appetite while sharing her laugh story with decadent wit cream.  She has performed throughout the DC area and as a featured stand up in shows in New York, Florida, Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania and Montreal, Canada.  She has performed at The Source Theatre, The DC Arts Center, The Howard Theatre, Arlington Drafthouse, BloomBars in DC, Jammin Java, Lincoln Theatre, Sully's Comedy Club, Baltimore Comedy Factory, DC Improv Comedy Club, Cozzy's Comedy Club, Magooby's Joke House, Liberty Laughs Comedy Club, Broadway Comedy Club and Dangerfields Comedy Club in NYC.  Davine Ker has shared the stage with the likes of Guy Torry, Todd Bridges, Willie Tyler, Pat Dixon,Jeffrey Gurian, Greer Barnes and Canadian legend Mike MacDonald.  She speaks English, French, Cambodian and Comedian very fluently. She was affiliated with Laugh Index Theatre as a house comic, is currently a contributing columnist with Bliss Magazine, and is a radio DJ/Host with Simone is a Washington DC comedian who has performed standup comedy on DC main stages such as the DC Improv and DC Drafthouse for nationally touring headliners such as Amir K, Bob Marley, Langston Kerman, Cristela Alonzo, Fortune Feimster, Pete Davidson, Nemr, Tommy Davidson, and Iliza Shlesinger. Internationally, Simone has performed in London, England, Paris, France, Reykjavik, Iceland, and Capetown, South Africa.  He has also performed at Comic Strip Live and at Laughing Buddha’s Village Lantern in New York, NY as well as Los Angeles, California’s Comedy Store. Simone has performed and hosted in the Washington DC arts community with Story League, La Ti Do, as well as District Comedy’s fundraising events. With his distinctive perspective on American life and politics combines with a laid-back, friendly delivery, Simone evokes an animated, clever, and funny act. His eye for the absurdities of cultural politics and his unique writing and performance style wows audiences. Audience members have called him "hilarious" and "hysterically funny", while bookers have labeled Simone "brilliant" and a " star". Anna Tirat-Gefen immigrated to USA with her family from Ukraine in her late teens, right around the time the Soviet Union was falling apart. She lives in Rockville with her husband and five children, works full time as a rocket scientist and has performed stand up comedy for the past three years.
