Veterans Day Empowerment & Unification Extravaganza

Our 2ndAnnual Women Veterans and Women in the Military Veterans Day Extravaganza willtake place attheNationalHarborin Prince George'sCounty,MD on November 9-11, 2013. It is designed as an outreach tool for more than 300 women veterans, to offer empowerment, peer- to-peer interaction, and information on support services in an effort to educate them so that they will be equipped with the tools needed for a smooth transition to break down the barriers that lead to homelessness. Women in attendance will participate in well-crafted events throughout the Veterans Day weekend in collaboration with federal, state and county agencies and other nonprofit and for profit agencies.

The 1st Annual event held on November 11, 2012 was a huge success and served more than 190 women veterans with the help of wonderful sponsors that included MGM Grand International, Talent Curve, AARP, Owen Software, SATECH and IFAS, LLC.

Partnership is crucial to ensure another successful event. Sponsors … we need your support! Your generosity is crucial to helping Women Veterans Interactive (WVI) help women veterans who have served and sacrificed their lives for this great country. What better time to recognize women veterans and women in the military than to lend your financial support throughout the Veterans Day weekend. Please review our sponsorship information and consider becoming a partner for this noteworthy event that will equip these women with the essential tools and resources needed to help them live full productive lives. Simply put … we cannot do it without YOU!

Women veterans are the fastest growing population of homeless veterans. Transitioning out of the military can be a daunting task; and when coupled with depression, unemployment, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Military Sexual Trauma and divorce, often times lead to homelessness for these women, many of which are single parents. The term “homeless veteran” should be nonexistent in the United States and with the financial support of generous sponsors; we can help to eradicate it!According to the Department of Veterans Affairs, women veterans often don't identify themselves as veterans and thus do not get the services and support they are entitled to. This event is a great way to show support for them and is a great step in helping them to identify and unify with their peers.

WVI’s mission is to meet women veterans at their points of need through Advocacy, Outreach, Interaction, and Unification (AEIOU), with a holistic approach to breaking down the barriers that lead to homelessness. Our programs were recognized by the White House on March 19, 2013, when I was honored by First Lady Michelle Obama and the White House as a Woman Veteran Champion of Change. Since 2012 we have supported more than 850 women with services and support.

       Thank you for your support!
