26th Annual Country Fair & Auctions at Youth For Tomorrow October 1st
Excitement is building among the dozens of volunteers planning YFT’s 26th annual Country Fair & Auctions, decidedly one of the premier Fall festivals in the entire Washington D.C. area. On October 1, legendary Hall of Fame former Washington Redskins football coach, current NASCAR team owner and YFT founder Joe Gibbs will be on hand as he has for each of the past 26 years to welcome fair-goers to the campus in Bristow, VA near Manassas. Events are scheduled from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., rain or shine.
Committee members and YFT staff have arranged activities that offer something to interest everyone. The goal this year is to top the all-time record attendance of 10,100 set in 2010. With more than 50 events and activities scheduled, the Fair is one of the best bargains in the region. An entrance fee of $5 allows children ages 4-16 to participate in all rides and activities at no additional charge; admission for adults is $10. There is no charge for children three and under.
Great silent and live auction items are being added daily. Action begins in the Live Auction tent at 12:30 p.m. where Gibbs will assist auctioneers Jon and Charles Nicholls of Nicholls Auction and Marketing Group as they excite bidders to “bid large” for items like a Baldwin Grand piano or a trip to Napa Valley or Harry Potter land at Universal Studios in Orlando. From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Silent Auction tent fairgoers can bid on Redskin and other team sports memorabilia, vacation packages and the always desirable electronic gadgets.
For racing enthusiasts, the NASCAR Experience will offer racing show cars, a Toyota motion sensory experience, a monster truck and Pit Crew challenge along with official merchandise for purchase. In Frontier Town you can test your prowess in the NRA Sports Shooting Gallery, ride a mechanical bull or a tame pony. The popular Hambone Express pig races, travelling all the way from Arkansas and a Master Chainsaw carver who will create unique wood sculptures will make a return appearance. In the Home Depot tent loaded with donated tools and home care products vendors will offer demonstrations and kids can build a simple project. The Minnieland tent will host entertainment and children’s activities throughout the day. Dozens of rides, slides and other children’s activities will also be available. The Cows-N-Corn farmer’s market will challenge you to pumpkin bowling in their pumpkin patch and you can also purchase farm fresh products. Live musical entertainment will include Cactus Jack and WMZQ radio personality Boxer. A variety of food vendors including Baja Bistro, Clyde’s, Chick-fil-A, Dixie Bones, Domino’s Pizza, Hard Times Café, Paradise Ice cream and Kona shaved ice will provide food for sale.
Youth For Tomorrow is a private, residential school and counseling center for homeless and at risk children ages 11-17. Since founded by Coach Gibbs, YFT has provided care 24 hours a day, 365 days per year to more than 1,000 boys and girls from Northern Virginia and the District of Columbia.
