9:10 AM-10:15 AM – Keynote: CHRO Panel – What Does the C-Suite Want To Know About Talent Acquisition? – Facilitator: Sarah Halzack – Business Reporter, The Washington Post. Panel Members: Angela Mannino, SVP Human Resources, Inova Health System; Jeff Perkins, Chief People Officer, NPR; Melody Jones,Chief Administrative Officer; CEB and Bridgette Weitzel,Vice President, Organization Development & Chief Talent Officer, BAE Systems North America – The headline for this year's "Post 200" a Washington Post review of the top 200 companies in the Washington, DC area read like this:  "In the Washington region, the biggest businesses got a little smaller in 2012." Combine that with the impact of the Sequester on the local economy, and it would seem talent acquisition wouldn't be a priority for executives. But the local job market is still one of the most challenging and robust in the entire country. Now more than ever, those organizations that have the hire and retain the best talent are those that win. So what do C-Level executives want to know about the challenges with developing and executing a successful talent acquisition strategy in the local market? Join a panel of top local HR leaders who are being asked these very questions by their top executives and who will share with you their insights into how they are believe that they can win in the local War for Talent.

Most organizations do not have well defined career paths for their recruiting professionals. What do you do when you wish to continue to progress in recruiting in your organization but there is no clear path forward? How do you continue to learn, grow, and even specialize to become an invaluable resource in your organization? How do you adapt when business slows down and industries contract, which may require you to make a career path into a new industry? Join a panel of local recruiters who will share with you how they have managed to grow and thrive in their careers despite changes in the economy, making career moves to new industries, and ever advancing technologies and techniques.

Sourcing Success – It’s All About Engagement – Derek Zeller, Sr IT Corporate Recruiter, ARTI – Whether you are dealing with active candidates, candidates who were referred, or candidates that you sourced completely on your own, it’s the conversations that we have with these candidates that can make all the difference. Great talent has to be convinced to join your organization, and this is where your communication and selling skills have a significant impact on your sourcing and recruiting activities. Do you have a script? Does the script differ based upon whether you are communicating with active, referred or passive candidates? Are you educating your hiring managers about the differences in how they need to communicate with active vs. passive candidates? This session will address those questions and more and help you with how you approach and engage prospects and candidates.

How much of an impact with the Sequester cuts really have on our employer and on the local economy as a whole? If companies are so flush with cash, why aren’t they doing more hiring? The level of uncertainty that the local economy is experiencing is almost unprecedented, and has already slowed down local hiring activity, which has consistently been the strongest in the country, even through the Great Recession. Join our panel of local recruiting leaders from many different industries as they will share their thoughts on how these uncertain times are affecting their recruiting strategies and how they are adjusting their resources and plans to accommodate their organization’s short and long-term hiring needs.
