Meditation - Young Adult Sangha (YAS)

Young Adult Sangha Overview Are you curious to learn about meditation with a group of young people? Are you a young adult craving a community of meditators and mindfulness practitioners that are going through similar life experiences? Want to try meditating with others? Beginning the third Saturday in May, the Insight Meditation Community of Washington (IMCW)-affiliated Young Adult Sangha (YAS) will gather in Washington DC at the Lamont Dharma House! Led by three facilitators, the group offers the opportunity to build a community of like-minded spiritual friends in the same time of life. YAS includes a guided meditation, activities to deepen our practice, and the opportunity to build connections through unguided social time at the end with tea and snacks. Logistics YAS will meet every third Saturday from 2:00-4:00 p.m. followed by tea time and socializing. The group is for anyone between 19 and 39 who wants to take part in a conscious, mindful community. The group is open to all young adults and welcomes all people regardless of heritage, sexual orientation, or disability/illness. The meetings will be held at the Lamont Dharma House, which is located at 1719 Lamont St NW, Washington, DC 20010 in Mt. Pleasant, closest to the Columbia Heights metro station. If you have questions about this Sangha, please contact the facilitators: Luana Long, luana.williams@gmail.com Amy Ouellette, amytouellette@gmail.com Ashleigh Enriquez, enriquez.ashleigh@gmail.com The Sangha is on a donation basis, in the tradition of dana (generosity). You do not need an Eventbrite ticket to the meeting; this Eventbrite page serve as an online announcement in addition to Facebook. Organizational Information Insight Meditation Community of Washington (IMCW) (http://imcw.org) is a non-profit spiritual community that teaches and practices Insight (Vipassana) meditation in the Washington, DC metro area. IMCW has grown from a small group gathered around Tara Brach in the Fireside Room at the River Road Unitarian Universalist Congregation (RRUUC) to a large and thriving community. IMCW is committed to both the deepening of individual practice and the growth of spiritual community (sangha). The Lamont Dharma House (https://lamontdharma.org) is a group house in the heart of Mt Pleasant centered around Buddhist meditation and yoga, as well as laughter, good food, and a flourishing garden. The house has come together to deepen their commitment, by practicing the dharma and yoga together regularly, and by creating a home environment supportive of contemplation, communication and insight. The house has also come together to create a place for the broader community to deepen in practice, by offering the space to all for daily meditation, yoga, daylong retreats, dharma talks, study groups and the like. Other Meditation Sits While YAS joins together a group of people in the same age-range in their lives, the greater Washington DC area offers many meditation sitting times for broader communities of all ages. For more information about IMCW sitting events, please see the IMCW Calendar: https://imcw.org/Calendar The Lamont Dharma House event calendar is available here: https://lamontdharma.org/calendar/
