Close Up Foundation: 2016 Congressional Reception

Join us for the Close Up Foundation's annual Congressional Reception on Tuesday, April 12, 2016 in the Rayburn Gold Room from 6:00pm-8:00pm.  This year, we are pleased to honor Rep. John Lewis (GA) with the Civic Excellence Award to recognize their committment to Close Up's mission and work to help young people become active and engaged citizens. We look forward to evening of networking with Members of Congress and Close Up alumni, partners, and friends. ABOUT CLOSE UP: Since 1971, Close Up has served more than 800,000 students and teachers from across the country on local and Washington-based civic education programs. The mission of the non-profit, non-partisan Close Up Foundation is to inform, inspire and empower young people to understand and embrace the rights and responsibilities of active citizenship. Close Up is the only civic education program that serves every segment of society, actively seeking to provide opportunities for all high school and middle school students regardless of their socio-economic level or prior academic success.  CLOSE UP & CONGRESS: Close Up has a long history of bi-partisan support from Congress. Each year, we schedule more than 1,200 meetings between Close Up participants and their Members of Congress and staffs on Capitol Hill. These meetings give students an opportunity to engage directly with their elected officials and ask questions about the policy issues that impact their communities. Because Capitol Hill Day is such an influential part of the Close Up program, it is no surprise that working in government becomes a career aspiration for many of our students. In addition to numerous Hill staffers, we are also proud that ten current Members of Congress are Close Up alumni.             Sen. James Lankford (R-OK)         Sen.
