      AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Heart Monitoring Course

      Course Description: This comprehensive 2-day instructor-led course, revised in 2017, is critical for enhancing and validating nurses and physicians' ability to interpret and respond to fetal heart monitoring tracings.  May be used to support preparation for certification examinations. Skills taught and knowledge assessed include: Maternal and fetal physiology Interpretation of fetal and uterine monitor tracings Evaluation of auscultated fetal heart sounds Leopold's Maneuvers Placement of fetal spiral electrodes and intrauterine pressure catheters Evaluation of and strategies for enhancing communication The course is presented to approximately 15,000 clinicians annually and may be used to validate knowledge and skills of perinatal clinicians who utilize fetal monitoring in the intrapartum setting. Expected Level of Learner/Intended Audience: This course assumes that the learner has previously completed entry-level/basic fetal monitoring education. It is designed for perinatal clinicians who utilize fetal heart monitoring in the intrapartum setting. Contact Hours: 18 contact hours of CNE and 15.25 hours of CME are provided. Course Preparation: The text entitled Fetal Heart Monitoring Principles & Practices is a beneficial reference for course preparation Course Materials: Materials include the student book and testing information, credit for the course can only be assigned if the student comes with an unused student pack.  Order Intermediate Course Student Pack - (Intended for all workshop participants taking the 2-day Intermediate Course) at least two weeks in advance from https://awhonn.kendallhunt.com/.  The cost is $120 plus shipping. Cost: $225 (for non-GW employees) to be paid by check or cash the day of class.  Course materials can be provided by the hospital for the additional cost of $120 (no shipping costs) if registration occurs 4 weeks in advance and upon request. Location: 3 North Conference room on Labor and Delivery at George Washington University Hospitall. You will need to show photo ID to enter the hospital and will come up to the third floor and will be directed to the conference room by the desk concierge.   If you arrive early please enjoy waiting at the Starbucks in the lobby or in the waiting room on the third floor as the conference room will be occupied until 830am.  Please do not enter the Labor and Delivery unit until 830am. If you are not a GW hospital or MFA employee please bring payment in the form of cash or check for $225 or $345 if we are providing your materials. Lunch is on your own so feel free to bring food or enjoy eating at our cafeteria or one of the many nearby restaurants. PLEASE NOTE:  This course is designed for perinatal licensed clinicians who have at least six months of experience with fetal monitoring, and are currently practicing in a field utilizing fetal monitoring.  **If you do not meet the criteria above you may be turned away at the door or may not be eligible to receive CEUs/CMEs for the course.  If you are unsure if you are a correct candidate please call instructor Megan Beglin 703 531 7480 and I will help you discern your eligibility.** If you have any issues getting to the course the morning of or any questions please call or text Megan Beglin at 703 531 7480.
